The city's most fragrant avenue is also near Prince Edward Road West. At the Flower Market, blooms from around the world line the stalls and are priced at almost a third of city flower shops. - Temple Street Night Market
Temple Street comes to life at dusk, Traffic stops, People swarm, And hundreds of little stalls appear out of nowhere. This is the famed Temple Street Night Market. Carts bulge with goods, from casual clothing to mobile phones and watches. You might be able to buy all your souvenirs here. If you're lucky, you'll encounter impromptu Chinese street opera, fortune-tellers, even street dentists. Food stalls abound too, serving up snacks and dishes. If everything looks clean and you're hungry, then pull up a chair. The market now opens at noon.
- Jade market
A short walk south from the temple is the Jade Market (located on the junction of Kansu and Battery streets), where hawkers sell various shades and qualities of the precious stone. To Chinese, jade has great spiritual value for warding off evil. When carved into certain shapes, it can represent wealth (deer), good fortune (tiger) and power (dragon). Don't buy expensive jade unless you are with an expert. The hours are from 10am-3:30pm daily. Mornings are the best time to go.
- Yuen Po Street Bird Garden
With 70 bird stalls showcasing a variety of melodious songbirds, this garden, with its courtyards and moongates, is a pleasure of both sight and sound. Songbirds remain a favourite pet of some local men, and the garden is testimony to the excessive pampering they receive. Merchants stock items such as fancy teak cages, tiny porcelain water bowls, even culinary delicacies (for birds, that is), such as grasshoppers. Free; open from around 7am-8pm.

Most shops are open from 10am-6pm.

The main temple is dedicated to the Taoist deity Tin Hau, Goddess of the Sea. The others are devoted to the God of the City, God of the Earth and Goddess of Mercy. In the courtyard, fortune-tellers read chim (bamboo fortune sticks), which contain crptic messages that need to be translated. Open 8am-6pm.
